New Video Primer: Complete!

I’ve been working on this for more than three months, but finally figured out how to put it all together coherently tonight. This is a layman’s introduction to a number of different things, starting with different video formats and how they stack up in terms of quality and resolution.

There’s also a series of supplemental articles, including one on JPG compression, and more specifically, the effect chroma subsampling has on your images.

I touched on human visual inadequacies as well, a followup to this article on gamesx.com. Now with better pictures!

There’s a brief history of televisions in there as well.

Finally, for those of you with short attention spans, there’s the short version with big pictures. =)
