Pretty much every day dad's out there yelling at people to get off his shed (see this post) and today's no exception.

You know how, when you pick up something really heavy or flex your muscles like mad and you give a huge, guttural HNGNGNGNG!!!! sound?

That's what JayJay's dad has been doing once or twice an hour all night.

Total silence, then RAGE! HGNGNGNG!!!

Then silence again.

Dad really loses out when JayJay and RayRay gang up against him. Hearing him bellow about cunts while the kids just laugh at him is pretty embarassing for everyone.

But, as usual, it's JayJay who loses out. "I don't give a fuck mate, I'm sick of you fucking swearing at me all the time!" screameth dad. "Get out of my fucking house JayJay! Get out of my house!"

And, as is routine, JayJay wails plaintively "I didn't doo anythiiiing. Daaaad! I'm sooorrryy!!!" Then he smashes the door and throws things at the walls and screams about how much he hates this fucking place.

One weird thing about JayJay is, when he laughs, it always sounds forced. He never sounds like he's actually laughing so much as he's imitating the sound of laughter. "ha! ha! ha!"

Mental bell ringing alert. When children seem to be going through the motions of laughter without actually experiencing mirth or humor, it's occasionally cause to evaluate some sort of mental condition. Specifically, children who fall anywhere on the spectrum of autism tend to break out into laughter or tears when it seems socially called for, and not they actually appear to feel anything. Similarly, children with Down's syndrome will laugh at completely inappropriate times without any sort of stimulus at all, like during a funeral or something.

Obviously, I'm not a child psychologist and I'm not in a position to observe JayJay for diagnostic purposes. But your description is enough to give me pause.

Oh, there's no question JayJay's got some mental development issues, but they're not severe. It's his environment that makes them seem so, he's not getting any kind of support at home, so he'll never overcome any of his challenges.

The laughter issue though may be overstated. This forced laughter always comes during arguments, as if he's trying to prove how little he's bothered by the family's antagonism, or egg them on. I can't say for sure he's incapable of natural-sounding laughter when he's not in a screaming fight with someone.
