Subject: WonderBoy V: Monster World III
So I'm playing some WonderBoy.  This one is the Action-RPG-style WonderBoy V: Monster World III.  It's a fantastic looking game on every system, but since I don't have the PC Engine CD, I'm playing on the MegaDrive instead.

I've learned a few things so far:

1. Save more often
2. When running full-speed do not fail to stop for bad guys.  They will kill you.  See point 1.

Also, it's important to note that monkeys don't carry money, but crabs do.

The Wonder Boy series, and especially the last two games, are some of the most beautiful games _ever_ made.

Everyone should check that out, a PS2 compilation with every Wonderboy game ever made on it, except for the Adventure Island bastard sons. It also has every localization and every version of every game.. so you can switch between the Game Gear and the Arcade version on the fly. Its fun. Amazing value, too.

Too bad Wonder Boy IV was never translated officially... but thanks to you I can now play that on my PSP, in English!

Yeah, part IV is pretty awesome, though I found it sometimes distressingly linear.

Some more screens from III:

Seriously, isn't that the cutest little underwater death lizard you ever done seen?

What's the general vibe around here with regards to WB3 The Dragon's Trap? I've had it for ages but have hardly played it even though it's meant to be great. I suppose I could dig out the SMS convertor and give it another bash.

I've never played it, though I reckon I should.  I might give the TG-16 version a go after I'm done with MW3 and MW4.

I'm still beavering away at this (though I've slowed a little since getting Crysis...  And by that I mean stopped entirely).  Here are some of the latest screenshots:

It's not hard to love a game like this.  The charm oozes from every pore.  It seems so obvious to me that the artists at Westone really loved their work.  This kind of fantastic imagery is largely lost in new games.  =(
