Subject: The Space Shuttle Challenger
When the Challenger shuttle exploded shortly after takeoff in 1986 I can remember with pinpoint accuracy where I was: sitting in Science class with a substitute teacher, when suddenly our normal teacher - Mrs. Neil - entered the class with tears in her eyes and snapped on the TV. She gave a short little speech but then we all just absorbed what was going on.
It didn't mean a lot to me, I wasn't particularly upset about any of it, but I remember fairly well being most outraged that they didn't have a dozen cameras watching the launch from every possible angle. You launched a shuttle and had to ask amateurs for the footage!? What the hell, man! Even at the age of fourteen I knew way, way better than NASA.
Do you remember?
