Subject: Tying Ropes
Lately I've been trying something new, taking advantage of some big black lights, and some fluorescent rope.  Here's the results of that (click the images for the rest of the galleries):

I've done three shoots so far, and for each one I try to push a little harder to work out new rope designs, new poses, and better results.  To some extent I think I'm succeeding, but it's something I have to consciously push for.  Nothing comes easy when it comes to black lights and complicated patterns.

For one thing, black lights are, as the name suggests, quite dark.  I've got four 4-foot tubes throwing out a shitload of UV, and it's still not enough.  I'd love four more.

And ropes are complicated, dammit.  Sometimes the most elegant patterns emerge, but then you spent fifteen minutes tying someone up only to find you've basically worked yourself into a knotted corner and you've gotta untie it all and start over.

But I am very pleased with the images so far.  =)

I'm absolutely loving these shoots dude. They combine tow things I love very much (ropes and naked bodies).

Have you considered trying to combine some more decorative pieces (danish kringle mats or something) as an anchor and then roping out from there? Not exactly practical, but it would offer something more than your average knots.

Yeah, I'm working on some different themes.  I'm really liking the silhouettes so far, so will probably continue with it for a little while yet.  After that, we'll see.

TBH, there's so much more I think I can do with the ropes themselves that I don't know I'll ever really run out of ideas.  And then I think I might work out some sort of method for suspension...  Not sure, it's a big step.  =)

Oh, definitely go for suspension.
Just remember to start out easy with suspension, and tie your knots well, you don't want your model being wheelchaired home (like I need to tell you).

Also, if you're looking for something to suspend from, a child's swing frame will support a hanging body weight and you can pick them up for basically free. They make a good starting point if you're not sure about spending money on anchors or something. :)

To start off every shoot I do a similar shot with each girl.  I figure it helps ease them into the whole being tied up thing.

The rope shoots are continuing regularly, two since the last post and two more coming up this weekend.  They're becoming more and more intricate and, IMHO, worthwhile.

Here are two shots from two recent shoots:

Ebony (Model Mayhem):

Elie (Model Mayhem):

Here's a short time-lapse video of the most recent shoot with Elie Winter:

Also, updated the HANDS post above this one with two new shots.  =)

The other day the lovely and talented Militia came to the studio and shivered a little in my cold living room while I tied her up with symmetrical ropes.

I kinda like how this shot turned out, it sort of gives me an Egyptian vibe.  If she were made of gold and bookended a sarcophagus I wouldn't be at all surprised.

While preparing for a rope shoot I sketched an idea on an empty envelope, and had a chance to shoot it a few days later.  I think it's kind of neat seeing ideas come to life, so assuming I'm not alone in this, here's the sketch and resultant photo:

You can view more of this shoot with Ebony, if you like.

Subject: The last of the fluoro ropes
Update: Added one more set of hands to the hands gallery a few posts up.

I think I'm done with the fluoro ropes for the time being.  I really need to up my game a few notches with the ropes.  Last night one of my favourite models came by and I put on my best skills, but...

Well, I'm immensely satisfied with the results, for several reasons:

[Image: http://nfgworld.com/grafx/photos/Jasmine-1.jpg]

[Image: http://nfgworld.com/grafx/photos/Jasmine-2.jpg]

But after seeing some of the stuff others are doing I really feel like I've got to up my game.  Like, a thousand-fold.

So I'm going to pick up a few books of techniques and I'm going to shift to visible light for a while.  I will come back to fluoro later, but for now I'm going to consider it a stepping stone to something greater.

But I think we went out with a bang.

The whole gallery from this last shoot is right here.
