Subject: I bought a new lens...
I bought a new lens just before xmas.  A Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF ED AF-S VR Micro.

That string of alphabet soup means this: The best quality macro lens Nikon ever made.  It's not a zoom lens, and frankly it's bloody hard to use, but wow.  Wow, the quality is unbelievable.  It's an incredibly expensive extravagance, but the results speak for themselves:

I've been without a macro for almost two years and it's been KILLING me.  Now, finally, I can take pictures of bugs again.  The fly above is about 7mm long, but lookatim:  wow!  =D

There are several options.  You can get a Tamron 18-250, which is a really sweet walkaround lens with a massive zoom range, very wide at the widest and an incredible 375mm zoom (35mm old-school equivalent), or a nice wide-angle like the Sigma 10-20mm.  Tamron makes a deadly 90mm macro, but the lack of zoom means it's only going to be good for portraits and macro...
