Jesus fuck, another transformers fan??

Your collection looks to rival c-storm's, actually.  That's mighty impressive.  Note that the image is larger than shows on this page.

I used to be a much bigger Transformers fan, but these days I limit my exposure to other fans. I've found that they're grumpy and easily offended, and more so than Star Trek fans or any comparable group. Like a low-roller in the casino, and enjoy what I enjoy and I don't let others define that enjoyment for me. So I buy the toys occasionally, but I don't sit and debate finer points of the fiction with people any more. It's more fun that way.

C-storm found that out the hard way, when - after a couple of minutes in a transformers IRC channel - the other members started stalking him and tried to take over a completely unrelated channel (mine).  To this day the NFG nick has been taken by one of their bots.  Buncha freaks, really.

A couple of close-up shots:

All the Optimus Prime toys, plus 1985-1988 era toys
All the Megatron toys, plus other 1985-1988 era toys

Note that many Transformers toys of a more recent vintage are just slightly posable action figures that don't actually transform. Some of these are interesting representations of a particular plot point or character development. Others are shameless attempts to cash in at a low cost of manufacturing. It's no surprise that popular characters get more toys than less popular ones.

That's a very impressive Transformers collection! Here's a shot of mine (I'm C-Storm):

As you can see, my focus is on G1 Transformers. Every single figure is 100% complete with their individual weapons / accessories and is in C9 condition or better.

And yes, the "stalking" that NFG spoke of was definitely not an experience I would care to repeat.

Hey, you've got Grandus! I'm jealous, he's a toy I've been hunting down for a while, especially since they reissued Star Convoy. I also note with sadness that you've got an Overlord, a toy I foolishly sold some years ago. Link:

Yeah, Grandus was a tough one to track down, especially with no "yellowing" to the white plastic. They do show up on eBay now and then, just be prepared to dig deep in your wallet. ~_~

Just because this sort of self-referential incestuous silliness is so much fun, here's what Kranix had to say today on IRC:

* Kranix (~kranix@c-98-250-1-231.hsd1.mi.comcast.net) has joined #NFG

[-- repeats the quote from the above post  --]

<Kranix> hahaha
<Kranix> see you in a year
<Kranix> <3

Do people still use IRC for anything? You get the feeling that it's like Usenet, where the users are aging out and not being replenished from a stock of technology users who've all moved on to newer things. What's to be gained from that?

IRC is where my friends are.  It's second only to my browser for internet app priority.

But I think it's an old man's club, full of the leftover online pioneers.  There's a little new blood, but not a lot.  I'm not aware of any replacements for chat though, are you?  A place where live group chat exists as a primary goal, rather than an offshoot of some other gargantuan social construct?

It's uncluttered by images, avatars, advertisements, recommendations and hashtags.  It doesn't have Twitter's limitations or Facebook's intrusiveness.  I quite like it.

Try #NFG on Efnet.  =)
