A few minutes ago I heard JayJay inside the house screaming "Fuck you dad!" followed by "Wooo!" as if he was on a playground slide.

Shortly afterwards I heard him banging on the outside door.  "Let me in!  Fuck you dad!" and dad shouted back "How's fuck off sound?"  That repeated a few times: JayJay would scream and day would reply "How's fuck off sound?"

JayJay was threatening to tear the door down, and dad dared him to do it.  This repeated a few times too.

Then I spotted JayJay out on his front yard, wearing naught but a bath towel.  No wonder he wanted in so bad.  He and dad were trading insults "Fuck you dad, you fucking pooftah" and dad would reply in kind.  This went on a few times, until I started to wonder if this was just how they showed affection for each other, until dad snapped and told JayJay to "fuck off, ya cunt!  Fuck off!  Get the fuck out of here, cunt!"

And of course it had the extra hilarious accent:  fack aff, ya cant!

It's so good to be back.

Work was over and I was talking to the boss, and my phone went off.  A text message from home.  "I just called the police.  JJ was at the door and asked me to."

A few seconds later: "I think you should come home."

So I rushed through ten minutes of agonizing rush-hour bullshit to find two cop cars parked outside JayJay's house.  My wife tells me JayJay came to the door and asked to come inside, which she didn't feel comfortable doing.  He told her that his dad was trying to kill him, and he just wants to come inside to use the phone and call the police.

She asked him "Do you want me to call the police?" and he says yes.  So she did.

Meanwhile his dad is cruising the neighborhood looking for him, a bit like a shark might if it had a driver's license, arm hanging out the window and the swearing about that fucking kid.

Four cops talked to dad and JayJay and RayRay for about half an hour.

By six o'clock JayJay was outside giggling and screaming and running around like nothing unusual had happened.  Dad and the car are nowhere to be seen.

This is what produces police indifference. See also the young fools who call emergency services because their controlled substances have been stolen, or for instructions on how to cook large poultry.

How old is Jay Jay, out of curiosity? If he's of an age that he can be reasonably afraid of being killed, then he must also be old enough to understand the consequences of crying wolf. The more he abuses the kindness of other people, the less likely he'll be to get help when he really needs it.

Well in more than two and a half years of living here, that's the first time he's ever talked to us, and the police thing is very unusual.  So yeah, he shouldn't do it unnecessarily, but it's certainly not as if he's doing it frequently.

I'd guess he's about 14?  Hard to say, I never really see him up close.

I can't see what he's doing exactly, but I can hear two simultaneous things coming from next door:  JayJay is calling loudly in a singsong voice It's raining it's pouring we all fall down! and dad, RayRay and a woman inside are screaming bloody murder "JayJay shut the fucking door/window" and similar.

I can hear JayJay's voice from the front yard now, echoing from farther down the street.  It seems, for the moment, that hosing things down is the greatest fun he's ever had.  Dad's not impressed.

Last night and this morning dad was outside raging 'cause the kids had locked him out of the house.  It was a very entertaining reversal, but I couldn't help think it would be short lived.

To my great surprise, dad was locked out again this morning, bellowing to be let back in the house.  A few minutes later, he was silent, so I assume they let him in...   I hope this continues, it's hilarious.

Dad's favourite word is cunt.  He ends every sentence with it.  This morning JayJay got kicked out of the house, and dad's tirade was as ceaseless as it was repetitive.  Fuck off, cunt.  Get out of my life, cunt.  Fuck off for today, cunt.  Get out of my yard, cunt.

JayJay is outside leaning against the carport, trying to negotiate a shower before he vacates the premises.  And a shirt.  He's calm and collected, but dad's furious.

A few minutes later the screen door bangs and I see JayJay, shirt in hand, bolting out the back yard.  Dad comes out and screams and points and picks up a stick, and JayJay heads for the street.

Good morning everyone!  Everything's normal around here.  =)

Locking dad out of the house is definitely the new fun thing next door.

Quote by dad:
Open the door, motherfucker!  Open it!  Open the fucking door!

----

Earlier today there were a bunch of kids, aged 5-7 is my guess, probably from around the neighborhood, all playing in Jayjay's back yard.  They were in the trees, clinging to the fence, and generally hootin' and hollerin' around the place.

Later in the day they were climbing all over the small garden shed, while dad puttered around the back yard doing yardy things.  Suddenly he noticed what they were doing.

Quote by dad:
Get the fuck off me shed!

They didn't get off, or change their behaviour at all as far as I could tell, but dad went back to doing his yardy stuff, apparently content that he had fulfilled his quota of discipline for the day.

Dad's singing Pink Floyd.  "We don't need no, mumble mumble..."

Then he screams at JayJay.

"We don't need no...  mumble mumble..."

A few moments later:

"Teacher!  mumble mumble..."

He's in a very good mood, apparently.  I've never heard him sing before.

"Shut up, JayJay!"

Out of nowhere dad is wailing 'why do you this to me!?' it sounds like he's about to cry.  He's yelling at jayjay,  'all I do is clean clean clean.   Why do I fucking bother?'

Jayjay yells back 'what do I doooo'

Dad's reply,  repeated three times of course,  is 'go to bed ya fucking cunt!'

Oh,  and something about spaghetti bog.

I pull my headphones off and I hear dad yelling

"Ya fucking gay cunt, ya don't hit little kids!  Fuck off JayJay, on your wheels.  Fuck off."

JayJay says, very humbly, "Sorry dad..."

"Fuck off, ya cunt.  On your wheels."

JayJay screams something involving fucking and dad says, in a sing-song voice, Laters!

There's some ongoing negotiation about JayJay's continued existence, but then dad starts raging about all the dirty laundry in the house.  He's carefully explaining, in a calm and quiet manner, how perhaps it might be better if JayJay only wore one set of clothes in a day.

Oh, wait, no he's not.  He's raging about fucking and cunts and stop changing your clothes so often.

Some pretty massive freaking out going on over there this afternoon.  I've never heard it getting quite so insane, and that's saying something.

JayJay was absolutely beyond himself with rage, he was incoherently screaming and swearing and, when he couldn't contain the anger, growling.  He was storming throughout the house banging on things, then he burst out the door and threw things, and kicked the garbage bins and knocked them over and picked up a chair and threw it back at the door and growled and screamed and swore.

From inside the house a woman's voice, herself screaming so loud it was hard to pick out words.  "Stop it JayJay, you're scaring Brooke!"

JayJay rages into the back yard and starts tearing things off the clothesline, throwing clothes on the ground and screaming.

RayRay meanwhile is amplifying things by calling out the damage JayJay's done on the other side of the house.  "He's kicked the bins in!"

JayJay gets back inside, and I can hear muffled screaming and banging as if he's tearing a door off the hinges slamming it so hard, and RayRay comes around the back and calls out "He's taken all your clothes off the line too!"

The woman, whose identity I still haven't determined, bursts out the side door and announces to the neighborhood "I can't fucking handle this ay!" and starts gathering laundry.

A child is wailing by this point, JayJay is just going berserk, RayRay's making it worse and the woman seems to have gone silent.

And a few moments later, everyone else is silent too.

I can't tell what set it all off and I can't tell what settled it all down again.  It was just as if someone lit the whole family off like firecrackers, and when the fuse ran out, everyone went back to what they were doing.

This most recent update interests me because there's actually something going on that I can identify sociologically. I'm guessing that your neighbors must have taken in a relative or a friend? The economy being what it is globally, unexpected changes in living arrangements are not uncommon. To make a long story short, it's stressful for children when their home is disrupted by an aunt or a cousin or some other distant relation. I imagine it wouldn't take very much for the children in that household to reach an uncomfortable level of stress.

Kendrick: this woman's been there since we moved back in, back in July.  I just figured she was a relative brought in to replace mom, who (I think) is in jail.  As for the economy...  Australia's been pretty much isolated from it so far.  There's a little bit of nervousness, but nothing's changed.

I've decided this woman is related to dad, 'cause she's got a high-pitched voice and she says things three times.

Just now she was outside having a smoke in the dark.  I could see only her illuminated cigarette as she inhaled, but I could sure hear her.  JayJay was, as near as I can tell, asking for money.

She was saying things over and over in a sing-song voice, the sort of way that seems appropriate for very low-class people.  It's very funny to listen to.  Imagine the following with 'door' being almost musical, high pitched and pure in tone.

You're not going nowhere, ♪ 'cause you broke the fucking door!  ♫

♪ You broke the fucking door!  ♫ You don't get nothin'.

I'm not giving you twenty dollars, ♪ 'cause you broke the fucking door!  ♫

From the sound of it, JayJay wanted twenty bucks so that he could leave, or get away from someone.  She said "I hope they fucking kill you, cunt."

And she signed off with a very classy "You don't fucking understand anything, you fucking spastic."

The cigarette glowed as she inhaled one last time, and slammed the door as she went back inside.

JayJay, with his typical dissociation between actions and repercussions, was cursing at dad, and following it up with belly laughs as if it was all a huge joke.  Screaming "Fuck you!" and then "hahaha!  Hahaha!"

Then he burst from the house and sprinted into the neighbor's yard.  Dad came out and yelled for a while, then picked up and threw a bicycle at the carport fence.  It hit the top, and fell over into the front yard.  JayJay yells "I'm going to Danny's!"  Dad suggests he stay there, more or less on a permanent basis.

Then dad walks calmly out, picks the bike up and inspects it, then shoves it hard into the yard where it rolls nearly to the road and falls over.

JayJay's back and yelling again.

I'm surprised too!  ;)

RayRay was just heard saying "You're not allowed out, JayJay!"

...That seems the opposite of what I expected.

Last night we saw a new kid, some bleached-blonde surfer-hair loser with a meter-long stick shoved through a hole in the kitchen screen.  He was fishing for something, but I have no idea what.  He didn't seem to get anything, and then he left.
