Subject: Prototype Saturn Pad
When Sega first sent the early Saturn hardware to developers they didn't have final controllers available, so they shipped out modified Genesis/MegaDrive 6-button pads. They used a customized PCB with an additional switch on it, drilled a hole through the pad's shell and presto, two shoulder buttons (the first was the MODE switch).
Sega really had a winner with this unit, and the Saturn pad didn't stray far from this formula: aside from the new shoulder button it was, in fact, very similar indeed.
Apologies for the pictures, I don't have this pad any longer and can't make new ones. Nor can I clean it - the previous owner was a bit of a slob, it would appear. Eew.
