Subject: Upcoming releases that I'm excited about.
Here are the three PC games that have me on the edge of my seat:

The Witcher - Available at EB on November 7th

I am a big fan of action RPG's (especially Eldar scrolls Morrowind, Oblivion, etc), and this game seems to be THE action RPG release of the past 3 years. It will be an Oblivion without all the let downs. This game will focus on decision making, and the choices you make won't be obvious straight away, but up to 10-15 hours later during gameplay, thus removing the whole save/load mentality. Storyline set about an awesome book, and the more I read about it, the more I'm excited. This will be the 1st game I buy in about 2 years.

Assassins Creed - Australian Release: [probably late]November 2007
OOOOH another good game! The drought has come to an end, just as Uni has finished! This is awesome!
A game that allows total freedom within the environment, including climbing walls, running along roofs, leaping fences etc. A lot of "parkour" elements in this game. Also it will allow players to make decisions that effect gameplay. This game is more like "Thief", but with more aggressive gameplay, and no limitations. TOTAL FREEDOM. Should provide hours of fun and exploration, as well as a plethora of user-submitted levels.

Starcraft 2 - Release, 1st or 2nd quarter 2008 [speculated]
OMG OMG OMG! That is how this is described.
The best strategy game ever (and the Korean national sport), is due to make its long-awaited comeback! In the makeing since Warcraft3: Frozen throne (2002 or 2003, I forget), It has been "finished"  for 5 months already, all the extra work going into balancing teams and fixing glitches. If anyone can remember the release of SC1, this is a massive job. This game has very high [VERY VERY HIGH] expectations to live up to, and by the looks of the gamepley videos out, it actually might!

Now please, if you have any games that you think are worthy, make your own little summary and post it, as I don't browse gaming websites, and might of missed something epic!

I'm with you on Starcraft II, and maybe Assassin's Creed (we were talking about that last night).  That picture of Assassin's Creed up on the tower is mind blowing.

Not sure about Witcher tho, I generally don't dig RPGs.

You totally missed Unreal Tournament 3 tho!!  That's my guaranteed game purchase of the year.

It's hard for me to get excited about Witcher now that Electronic Arts has bought out Bioware. As far as games I'm interested in, the Phantasy Star Universe expansion has my attention. There's also an outside chance that the Persona 3 expansion disk might get localized for the United States, so that's something I'm actually excited about.

I dunno man, I played the GameCube Metroid and it was...  Well, it was annoying, with a novel to read in every room, a completely linear route with too much backtracking, bosses that you needed to look up on the internet to kill...  It annoyed the shit out of me.

Now, P.N. 03 on the other hand, that's a game!

[Image: http://nfggames.com/games/screenshots/pn03h.png]

[Image: http://nfggames.com/games/screenshots/pn03l.png][Image: http://nfggames.com/games/screenshots/pn03q.png]

An old review I wrote:

P.N. 03 (Product Number 03, surely a title indicative of Capcom's new creative bankruptcy) defies easy generalization. What kind of game is it? Well, visually it's a first person shooter, but it doesn't quite play like one. When you're actually shooting your movement is restricted. Your character, a shapely lass in a tight bodysuit, will auto-target enemies (and you can switch targets) while your primary movements are dodge left or right, jump, and crouch. You can't shoot at all while you're moving, so unlike your normal FPS this isn't a run-n-gun affair. The game itself is kind of a 3rd person shmup, you work for score and clear-times, and you get combo points by stringing together kills. These points are redeemed for bigger and better suits and weapons, armor, etc. I've heard people say it's a kind of music game, and it's totally not, except that there's music in it and the character kind of bops to her own rhythm. The music plays no part in the gameplay itself.

Visually the game is very spare, Capcom has chosen a monochromatic look similar to Sega's Cosmic Smash. The graphics have a kind of seventies-era sci-fi flick: lots of whitish rooms with few decorations populated with well animated robots and as many lasers and missiles as you can shake a pointed stick at.

I have one complaint with the controls, and it's simply a matter of design more than a flaw. When shooting or performing a special, there's a slight delay after your last shot before your character returns from her (sexy) shooting stance to a (sexy) neutral one. If you rush the next command, a special move for example, she will completely ignore it. I found this hard to get used to, and because of it there was a constant impression that the controls were laggy or unresponsive - but only during the transition from shooting to moving or performing a special.

There are close to a dozen different suits to acquire, each with a different balance of armor, power, energy and special moves. Some even feature a slow auto fire, which will relieve the stress of frantically pounding on the shoot button.

Bottom line: If you like old-school shooting and you want to see how it would look combined with modern visuals and a FPS motif, P.N.03 might be for you. It's all about score and clear-times, there's only a little bit of exploration, thankfully little story, and no puzzle solving to get in the way beyond 'how do I defeat this boss!?' Shoot, dodge, shoot, run for the door. Simple, good looking, and unfortunately for Capcom, not a popular idea.

I dislike PN03 in the same way that I dislike Jet Force Gemini, even though they're not entirely similar, they feel to me like action shooters that have gone wrong or are missing an unnamed essential something. PN03 feels disjointed to me, I could never get the character to flow like so many people raved about, and they say "Oh but you have to think about it a certain way and get in a zone" or "It feels great when you realise how it works" which for me echo the "NiGHTS is the best game ever made, you just don't understand it" statement where I thought NiGHTS was an extremely shallow time-trialing game with wobbly graphics, crap bosses and a basic A-life simulator tagged on. Me being me, for what it is, I love Sin & Punishment. But hey, I'm nearly always wrong.
Metroid Prime, on the other hand, is my idea of sex on a disc. Graphics that were the best on Gamecube to that point, even surpassing what many thought possible on the system, a 3D map that actually worked and a great back story that was entirely optional; you didn't have to read if you didn't want to, unlike so many games in the last 10 years. It was 3 in the morning, I was in bed, the curtains were open and it was snowing outside when I first opened the door to Phendrana Drifts. Defining gaming moment.

I come bearing bad, bad, horrible news!

The witcher has been delayed until the 14th at least :(

And assassins creed had a MASSIVE bug in their pc version, and they had to change the code (which means more testing etc), and MIGHT be out by the end of this year, but probably Q1 next year.

Turok doesn't look as nice as I'd hoped.  It's like a plastic version of FarCry ++dinos.

DMC looks a lot nicer, but I dunno if I can get into it.  I sure didn't like the first one.  'stylish action' suggests to me that it will look good before playing good.  Kind of like the Matrix or any other movie that has people pulling a pose before they DO anything.  =/

Stylish action can be the point. Bujingai, Shinobi, Dead or Alive, anything where the cheese factor is higher than normal. Devil May Cry seems to take itself too seriously to be included in that club, even though it's a Capcom game.

Aww man! DMC1 was awesome! 2 on the other hand... shouldn't have been released. It was a disgrace. 3 was pretty damn sweet. Good thing about the DMC games is that they are a good challenge, they aren't afraid to shove in a nice difficulty. Though you can see how people come up with comics like this :P
