Subject: Neva Ending days
10 hours days and nothing to show for it. how many days can you have like this, I will let you know when I finally stop doing them, which will probably be when my boss realises that things don't all happen instantly when you ask for 10 things in one go. The list of complains is endless and rather than suggest my life is more suckier than everyone elses (and risk an ear bashing from NFG), can someone offer me a plausable explaination as to why most CEOs , MDs and Directors have no real concept of how much effort it takes to run their own companies?    :rolleyes:

They're smart enough to hire competent people to do their work for them.  After that decision's been made, their brain atrophies rapidly until their sole function is to frustrate you.

Disappointment's part of working life.  For example, I stuck around work for an extra half hour, expecting an important client to call, and they never did.  <sigh>

Sheesh  What  a pain in the butt customer, maybe not really the kinda you need, but then again if their afternoon was anything like mine, there could be a good excuse,and they could be very very sorry.

Absent any specific issues you'd like to address, I'll make an attempt to answer the original question.

There are two relevant stories from Chinese history. One tale is about the governor of a large province, who ignores a hundred-man street brawl while touring the capital city. But he gets out of his carriage to ask why a farmer's horse is tired. When challenged by his advisors, the governor replies that local police do law enforcement, but it's his job to make sure that the harvest feeds everyone next year. If a horse is this tired in the Spring, it might be too hot.

Another tale discusses a time when the emperor had two prime ministers. He asked the younger one many questions that couldn't practically be answered, like how many swords were issued to the troops or how much water was in the reservoir. When posed with the same questions, the older minister responded that it was his job to advise and delegate, but not to know every detail of the nation's business. By way of example, he asked if it was his job to know the whereabouts of every thief and prostitute in the country.

The lesson here is that you need to know what your job is. If you're asked to do things that are beyond your responsibility, you must speak up and raise an objection respectfully. If you're asked to do more than you are able, then you must point out that you need help. If a manager doesn't know the amount of work that goes into accomplishing a goal, it's partly because the subordinates don't realize it's also their job to communicate that. It's not their job to know every detail of yours, but it is your job to give them feedback in a way that they understand. Unfortunately, that usually happens in a passive way that doesn't convey the information until it's too late.

Kenrick.... apologies dude, I will remember to check the sarcasm at door in future.  Although I still think the story are very mangement, sometimes  even stating the obvious doesn't get you anywhere, which is now why I have the impossible take of re-organising  an entire wharehouse, and getting an accurate stock take (something that has neva been achieved) in under six weeks....so dude wot i should be saying is thank you for reminding of how not to fall into the tri that usually befalls management  :-D

As they say in Oz, no worries. An apology is not necessary, I've been where you are and I think you're entitled to a little venting in the face of an obstinate boss.

My experience is, there's always a way to communicate with a boss, no matter how dumb he is. The last ditch effort is small words and visual aids. If you roll out an eleven-foot long project plan on plotter paper and show him that every little task will take two people working fifty hours a day to complete, he may get the picture. If he doesn't, then you weren't going to get done anyway and you can sit in calm serenity and contemplate your next job.

As much as I have feeling very stressed out by the boss, she has reminded me today why I put up with her, leaving work at a moments notice in spite of impeding choas and doom, to take care of some personal, important but still personal, so as I sit here wasting time waiting to be told to move, it kinda puts things in to perspective, how do you eat an elephant.......one bit at a time
