Subject: Australian Roads
Why do Australian roads have so many names?  Is it just Brisbane?  Every time you cross from one suburb to another the road you're on changes its name.  Sometimes it'll do it a few times within a suburb, and sometimes it'll do it EVERY BLOCK.

The Ipswich Motorway, heading into Brisbane, becomes Main Street for one block near the 'Gabba, then is the Bradfield Highway.  Then it seems to be Main Street again, or maybe it's both, but only until you cross the Story Bridge, at which point it becomes Gipps Street for a block, then Barry Parade for a block, and then Brunswick Street for a couple of blocks, and finally Bowen Bridge Road for a little while, then it becomes Lutwyche, until finally it's Gympie Road until you leave town.

It's the SAME GODDAMNED ROAD!

i mean..whats with roads that split and go around, either side of a block, yet are the same name? how am i supposed to know where No. X is? do i take the left or right option?

It's not like that in Canberra. (Except on really really really really long roads, and then it changes at traffic lights or something fairly obvious)

In Perth up until relatively recently (when they actually started thinking about what they were doing) you had the problem where some famous bloke had a road named after him in almost every suburb and even then some places like (example) Johnson Street, Johnson Road, Johnson Avenue all near each other too. Doesn't happen as much now but you're left with the legacy of it which is no help at all when all the bloody suburbs look the same.

There are two restaurants on the same road I work on (though it has a different name, though it's the same suburb and only the next block...)

The two signs can't even get it right:
one points to Smith Road
the other to Smith Street

They're in the same fucking building.
