Subject: Australian World Cup Commercials
It's probably been mentioned before, but I love commercials.  Some of them, anyway.  I think they're a unique insight into a culture.

Anyway, the world cup's on, and some of the ads are pretty amazing.

Consider for example this Optus ad: dramatic lights, exotic animals, and soccer.  Fuck yeah:

I also love this Ronaldo video from Nike.  There are a few of these, featuring other players, and I'm quite sure I've seen a long version with all of them tied together...  I'm waiting for it to be played again.  It's brilliant.  I just love thinking about the budget behind this.  So many scenes, each with a massive amount of work involved, shown for mere seconds.

More to come.  =)

Now I understand why Australia got thrashed so badly by Germany!
With training like that they would have no idea what to do against a team can actually play Football! :P

I got the other one from Nike just now, this one featuring English striker Wayne Rooney.  I think this is just a fantastic ad, it's irreverent and high-energy and great fun.  I just love the scene where all the babies are being named after him.

And here's a two-pack of Sony ads featuring recently red-carded Australian superhero Tim Cahill.

OK, so here's the last of three Nike commercials, featuring Didier Drogba:

And I found the full three-minute version on YouTube (and then I torrented a 50MB high res version, heh).  Goddamn if this isn't the best commercial in the universe I don't know what is:

Subject: Another fantastic Nike Football Ad
In addition to the seriously fantastic ads I've already mentioned, there's this one featuring Robinho.  I have no idea why it's not part of the genius 3-minute version:

Subject: The Nike World Cup Curse!
Every single feature player in the Nike commercial mentioned above has seen their team knocked out of the World Cup.  I wonder if Nike will find it harder to get players on board for the next world cup ads.  =D

The funny thing is Adidas is the sponsor for the world cup, Nike has nothing to do with it, but are just cashing in without affiliating themselves with it...none of there ads show the cup or the cups symbol, just football players that may be playing.

Smart move Nike, smart move indeed
