Wasn't a bad year, actually.

Subject: NFG's Best Games of 2010
So like many old people I don't play as many games as I used to.  What with real-life commitments like work, lawn bowling and shaking my cane at the kids on my lawn I just don't have the disposable time.  So it's rare that anything even makes it onto my radar, rarer still that I actually play it, and a very rare thing indeed when I find something new that I like.

'Cause let's face it, modern games are rubbish.  Except for these two:

NFG's Game of the Year 2010: Hydro Thunder Hurricane (Xbox Live Arcade)

[Image: http://nfgworld.com/grafx/games/HydroThunderGotY.jpg]

This is seriously hot shit.  This is, without question, the finest edge-of-your-seat racing since, well, since the first one hit the arcades back in like 1999.  If you've ever played Hydro Thunder on a home console before Hurricane you'd probably hate it.  They all sucked.  But this...  Well I don't know who the fuck Vector Unit are, but by golly they know how to craft a fine racing game.  I love this so much I've just sworn at you twice.

I'd meant to write a full and proper review of this game but every time I sit down to work out some screenshots or video I end up playing it for the rest of the day.  Put on your hardest fastest bestest music and this game kicks the ass of every other damn thing.

NFG's runner-up Game of the Year: PacMan Championship Edition DX (Xbox Live Arcade)
You might remember I hated this at first.  A controller malfunction meant it ran at half speed for me and it wasn't any gol-durn fun at all.  But it turns out I'm an idiot and this game is fantastic.

NFG's I Don't Get It of the Year: Minecraft (PC)
It's everything I like about Lego hobbled by everything I hate about RPGs.  The joy of creating neat stuff is completely ruined by collecting and crafting and other things that generally annoy me to death.  I sure wish I'd written it though, I like money.

I also played a ton of Trials HD and the new Lara Croft, and quite liked both.  The new Trials pack offerd a whopping 40 new tracks, and Lara Croft was a really enjoyable reboot of the old Tomb Raider series.  Mostly though I played the retro stuff: Super Mario World, Demon's Crest, Saturn and Dreamcast and SNES and N64...  Ah, memories.

no way, man. the best game of 2010 was definitely Heavy Rain.

it's real drama in a video game.  if you dont understand how profound that is then "it turns out [you're] an idiot and this game is fantastic." *ZING!*  there are two groups of people who played it, kiddie gamers who hated it ("MOST BORING GAME EVER") giving it a rating of 1 and adult gamers who loved it ("This game is brilliant") and gave it a rating of 10.

at the very least, it's video game of the year for people who arent emotionally stunted.
